Development
We are committed to improving and growing community and affordable housing in Christchurch. It’s an important part of our work delivering on our mission to reshape community housing into homes and communities where people can belong.
We identify properties for rebuild and manage a team of external designers, architects and contractors to deliver modern environmentally and social sustainable homes to budget and deadline.
Our developments are designed to achieve high New Zealand Green Building Council Homestar ratings and many have been recognised with national awards for their design, quality and innovation.
Current developments
Elm Grove, Linwood
A new community of 11, 1-bedroom townhouses scheduled to open mid-2026. The new community housing development replaces an old social housing complex decommissioned in 2024.
Griffiths Avenue, Aranui
A new community of 13, 1-bedroom homes scheduled to open mid-2026. The new community housing development adds to the legacy of nearly 80 years of city council-owned social housing on what used to be known as the Sandilands social housing community.
We’re building back, better
Many of Christchurch’s original social housing units were built decades ago and over time we need to consider whether some meet today’s standards for comfort, energy efficiency, or community design.
Our developments seek to replace or add-to our city’s affordable housing stock to ensure our communities have access to homes that are healthier, warmer, and more sustainable for generations to come.
We work with experienced, award-winning architects and contractors to deliver well-planned developments of modern and efficient homes set in quality outdoor spaces that are designed connection and well-being.
As we grow, our developments contribute to multiple housing pathways from secure community housing, to affordable rental options, to progressive home ownership. We want our homes to help people build life stability across the housing continuum, one step at a time.
Many of our projects have received awards for design and innovation, reflecting our commitment to excellence and long-term stewardship in community and affordable housing.
