New futures behind new gates at Griffiths Ave
Things are really levelling up at Griffiths Avenue.
Across the site, the final pieces are coming together as ŌCHT’s new 13-home community tracks toward a June opening.
The bricks are very-much set, interiors are painted, flooring is down and bathrooms are in.
Garden sheds are going up as kitchens are fitted out with shelving, and fences and gates are being installed around each home.
The central car parking area is ready for sealing, and yards are being prepared for planting.
At the front and back doors, changes are already making a difference. Where there was once a near 500mm drop to the ground, new decks and carefully placed infill now provide safer, more accessible entry points.
The site’s natural slope meant significant groundwork was needed to create a level, usable community.
Around 30 to 40 truckloads of rock have been brought in to reshape the land, according to Consortium site foreman Phil.
With that work largely complete, the focus has shifted to hardscaping and landscaping, which will continue over the coming weeks.
Come June, it will be ready for people to move in and make it home.
The Griffiths Ave development adds 13 new homes to ŌCHT’s portfolio, designed to be warm, dry and efficient to run for the long term.
Like all of ŌCHT’s new builds, the homes are designed to support healthier living and lower ongoing costs, while making the best use of the land available.
Once complete, the homes will be offered to people on the Ministry of Social Development’s Public Housing Register — households with a range of backgrounds, united by a need for stable, affordable housing.
ŌCHT works carefully to match people to homes and communities, and its specialist tenancy teams support tenants as they settle in and make their home their own.
