Elm Grove nears June opening

ŌCHT’s latest new home development is on target to welcome its first households in June.

Elm Grove’s 11, one-bedroom homes will soon have a new driveway linking them to their neighbourhood.

Most of the homes look all-but finished from the outside as new paths and fences shape their courtyards.

Inside, builders, electricians and plumbers continue to fit new kitchens and bathrooms.

Lead contractor DevCorp’s site manager, Joff, has his office in one of Elm Grove’s three cottage-style units.

He’s been enjoying the warmth and quiet of the well-insulated house as work on-site intensifies.

Come June, it will be someone’s long-term home.

The new-look Elm Grove replaces a 70-year-old social housing complex and has been designed to meet sustained demand for one-bedroom, affordable homes.

Each home is built to be warm, dry and energy-efficient — part of ŌCHT’s wider programme to replace older housing with homes that better support health, wellbeing and long-term affordability.

The development has also been carefully designed to sit comfortably within its neighbourhood.

Three cottage-style homes face the street, reflecting the intimate scale of Elm Grove.

Behind them, a one- and two-storey block is set back into the site, making efficient use of the land while remaining visually recessive from the street.

Once complete, Elm Grove will provide long-term, stable homes for individuals or couples who may otherwise struggle to find suitable housing.

The new homes will be offered to people currently waiting for a home on the Ministry of Social Development’s Public Housing Register.

ŌCHT works carefully to match people to homes and communities, and its specialist tenancy teams support tenants as they settle in and make the homes their own.

We look forward to welcoming our new households soon!
