Rediscovering purpose
Kia ora koutou,
In my last column, I talked about the importance of reframing challenges and seeing them as a source of strength.
This time, I want to talk about something that goes hand-in-hand with that: a sense of purpose.
We all need to feel like our actions matter, that we're contributing in a meaningful way.
Sometimes, a long period of unemployment can make us lose touch with that feeling.
We might start to feel like we're just getting by, rather than living a life with a clear direction. But your purpose is still there, waiting to be rediscovered.
Purpose can be found in many places.
For some, it’s in a job, using their skills to build something or serve others.
For others, it’s in volunteering, giving their time to a cause they believe in.
It could be in a creative passion like painting, writing, or gardening, where you find joy and a way to express yourself.
Or, it could be as simple and profound as helping others, whether that's supporting your whānau or lending a hand to a neighbour.
As an Employment Coach, my job isn't just to help you find work, but to help you find your purpose.
We can explore what makes you feel alive, what skills you've gained, and what you want to contribute to the world.
A job can be a great way to find purpose, but it’s not the only way.
Remember as you get work ready, to always think about your why - the reason that gets you excited to get up in the morning.
Until next time!
