Lightbulb moments

Kia ora katou

I have the privilege of working with people from all walks of life, all who have living in an ŌCHT community in common.

While our conversations are often focused on the practicalities of finding a job, one of the most rewarding parts of my role is witnessing those "lightbulb moments."

That instant when a tenant you're working with suddenly sees a new possibility for themselves. It’s the spark of potential igniting.

Funnily enough, these moments remind me a lot of my early days mentoring young people just starting their careers.

Whether you're guiding a new colleague or coaching someone who’s been out of the workforce for a while, the feeling is the same: the joy of seeing someone recognise their own potential.

A young staff member might realise they have a knack for leading a project, while a tenant might discover that their lived experience is a valuable skill in itself.

My job is to help nurture that spark.

It’s about creating a supportive space where people feel safe to explore their ideas and take a chance.

We do this by asking the right questions, not just giving the answers.

By helping you to see your own strengths and skills in a new light, and by encouraging you to take that next small step.

It’s about more than just finding a job; it’s about rediscovering a sense of purpose and confidence.

That’s what you’ll get from me as we work to get work ready.

We're here to help you recognise that potential, and to help you grow it into something truly great.

So, as you get work ready, look out for that lightbulb moment!

Until next time!
