Life experience is powerful
Kia ora katou
I often see people hesitate to talk about the harder parts of their lives when they're looking for work.
We’ve been taught that we should only highlight our successes, and that things like navigating mental health challenges, recovering from a setback, or overcoming adversity are things to be kept quiet.
I want to challenge that idea, because I believe your lived experience is one of your greatest strengths.
The skills you gain from surviving and persevering are incredibly valuable to any employer.
Think about it: managing your mental wellbeing requires immense resilience, self-awareness, and problem-solving skills.
Overcoming a personal challenge teaches you adaptability and determination.
Being able to ask for help, or to support someone else through a tough time, shows a huge amount of empathy and communication skill.
These aren't just "soft skills"; they're the foundations of a great employee and a supportive teammate.
My job is to help you see these qualities in yourself and show you how to articulate them to a potential employer.
We can work together to reframe your journey, turning difficult experiences into a powerful story of growth and capability.
It’s not about dwelling on the past, but about celebrating the strength and wisdom you've gained along the way.
Our work together values your whole story.
The journey you’ve been on has given you skills that are unique and hard to teach. Let's work together to help you recognise that strength and use it to build a great future.
Until next time!
