Community engagement
Our community engagement team helps tenants identify opportunities - and tackle the barriers to achieving them.
Community engagement
Our multidisciplinary engagement team works with tenants to identify opportunities to live well in our communities and beyond. Their work includes:
Tenant surveys: to ensure ŌCHT’s service delivery meets tenant and community needs.
Tenant Interest Groups: tenant focus groups identify needs and community-led solutions.
Events: including Housing Heroes and the Tenant Art Show celebrate contributions to community life.
Collaboration: with community partners, from local community gardens and neighbourhood support to national service providers and funders, secures services and programmes that enhance community life.
Special projects: securing and facilitating access to non-landlord services, such as free internet and free and subsidised digital devices and phones, better enables individual opportunities.
Coaching and specialist support services: employment coaching, digital coaching and refugee and migrant support services help tenants meet housing and life goals.
This work supports our vision of communities in which people thrive in warm, secure and connected homes, and are supported to move through the housing continuum and to more independence.
Employment coaching
Our free employment coaching service supports job-seeking community housing tenants to prepare for, find and settle in to paid and volunteer work.
Digital coaching
Our free Digital Coaching service helps tenants make the most of the digital world with an experienced Digital Coaching Advisor and all sorts of free training options.
Settling in support
ŌCHT’s Settling In Coordinator helps people feel at home and connected, particularly new New Zealanders, migrants and former refugees. She also links people to practical services, community networks and local opportunities including:
Health care services
Financial and budgeting support
Education and training options
Sports and recreation activities
Community-based social events
Partnerships and supporters
ŌCHT is grateful to the many community groups, agencies and funders that support our community engagement work.
