Cate’s Covid update

CEO Cate has written to tenants outlining how we can help during the Omicron outbreak.

Cate, our chief executive, thanks people for all they’re doing to keep safe during the COVID-19 Omicron outbreak.

In her letter delivered over the past few days, she thanks people for all they’re doing to keep safe during the COVID-19 Omicron outbreak. The virus is now part of life in Christchurch and being fully vaccinated and following public health advice is more important than ever.

 Getting tested 

The ŌCHT team is fully vaccinated and we use RATs (Rapid Antigen Tests) to make sure we’re staying well. You can get RATS from your local pharmacy or call ŌCHT on 0800 624 456 if you need help getting RATs– we have limited access to RATs supplied by our wonderful community partner, Ngāi Tūāhuriri. And if you do the RAT test, please record whether you have a positive or negative result on mycovidrecord.health.nz or by calling Ministry of Health on 0800 222 478. 

Getting help 

Many support services are helping with the Omicron outbreak. MSD is a great place to start. You can get hold of them online via workandincome.govt.nz or call the COVID Welfare line on 0800 512 337. Please call us on 0800 624 456 if you’ve got COVID or you’re an isolating household contact and you need help getting the support you need. We’ll always do what we can.  

Welfare and community visits 

You’ll see our team in your community over the coming weeks. Please feel free to have a chat. We’ll wear face masks and keep a good distance. We’ll try as much as possible to chat outside, where there’s good air flow. If we’re due to visit, we’ll ask to meet you outside your home. Whenever you meet us, please wear a mask and follow the 2-metre social distancing rule.  We’ll also have some masks available if you don’t have one. 

Repairs and maintenance 

Our contractors will keep working on our planned jobs and keeping lawns and gardens tidy. They’ll wear masks and stay at least 2-metres from other people. Please don’t approach them – if you have any questions about their work, please call us on 0800 624 456 

We’re focused on completing all urgent repairs and maintenance. To limit contact between people inside, we’ll ask you to pop outside or into another room when we work in your home.  

It might take longer to complete non-urgent work until the current Omicron surge slows. COVID is affecting everything from the number of contractors available to work, through to the materials they need to get the job done. We’re grateful for your understanding. 

Vacant homes
You’ll still see us working on vacant homes. We’ll also be letting properties to new tenants, so please keep making new neighbours feel welcome – with masks and social distancing, of course! 

Getting hold of us 

ŌCHT’s Kilmore St office is open. We have to limit people in the office so please call ahead if you’re visiting. Please wear a mask and stick to social distancing rules. You can also call us on 0800 624 456 – that’s the best way to let us know about maintenance requests or issues related to your tenancy. 

We’re all in this together
The outbreak affects all of us and ŌCHT is just as worried as you are. Please be patient and kind as we deliver our services – and as we all deal with the outbreak which may last a while. Please keep an eye out for your neighbours and call us on 0800 624 456 if you feel isolated, need our help or are worried about anyone in your community.
