Art Exhibition

A showcase of Talent

Tenants from Ōtautahi Community Housing Trust (OCHT) will have their talent on show this week at the opening of an exhibition at the Arts Centre in Christchurch. Over 35 tenants have submitted works for the inaugural exhibition. This includes painting, sculpture, drawing and poetry with many tenants submitting more than one work.

The exhibition was formally opened by the Chair of OCHT, Alex Skinner, at a function on Tuesday 25 February.

“The breadth of talent that our tenants have, always astounds me and it is very positive that the Trust can showcase their work. It is important that we provide opportunities to grow our communities and build strong neighbourhoods,” said Mr Skinner.

Tenants talked about how art and creative opportunities has helped grow their confidence and make connections within their communities.

The purpose of OCHT is to provide community housing to those most in need of housing. The Trust was established in 2016 as the Christchurch City Council moved to a financially sustainable model for its social housing portfolio of approximately 2,200 units. OCHT’s objective is to provide a tenant-centric service and deliver a financially sustainable portfolio to improve the quality of its housing and increase the supply of community housing in Christchurch.

Some works are available for sale after the exhibition closes on Sunday 1 March.
